Cosmetics, Esthetics and Spa Courses
Courses in cosmetics, esthetics and spa programs at Ontario colleges provide students with the practical experience necessary to work in a variety of beauty-related businesses. Courses are typically divided into two areas:
- Techniques. Depending on the focus of the program, these practical courses will teach students the skills required in procedures like manicures and pedicures, applying makeup, skin and body treatments and hair removal. Students will learn how to customize treatments to match client needs and their specific situations. Work placements, practicums and simulated learning environments are fundamental in the learning process.
- Business / Management. Courses in business and management equip students to succeed in running a business in the beauty industry. Marketing, finance and retail strategy courses provide fundamental knowledge on operating a business, should graduates want to take on a management or entrepreneurial role.
Note: Some programs provide both technical and management training, whereas others focus solely on industry techniques.
General Cosmetics, Esthetics and Spa Program Requirements
Ontario college cosmetics, esthetics and spa program requirements vary. In general, an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent is required, along with a grade 12 English credit. Some programs may require CPR, First Aid or Respiratory testing. Check individual program requirements carefully before applying.
