FAQ: College Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
Starting October 1, 2023, applicants to Ontario colleges will be asked questions related to equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI). Answering these questions is completely voluntary. For more on this initiative, see the questions and answers below.
We collect this information on behalf of Ontario colleges based on authority granted in the Ontario Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology Act.
We will provide combined reports (not identifiable to an individual applicant) to all institutions based on the collection of EDI-related data. Your responses will be shared only with the institutions to which you have applied.
An institution may use the information you share for the following purposes:
- To inform you of specific programs, services, and supports that might be of interest and available to you.
- To facilitate your application to the institution (including to identify admission criteria that might apply to you and to assess your eligibility for relevant scholarships and bursaries).
- To create aggregated data (not identifiable to an individual applicant) that the institution may then use to improve the availability of post-secondary education to equity-seeking groups.
- To conduct research and analysis regarding the delivery of services to equity-seeking groups.
- To identify and mitigate unconscious biases and systemic racism in the admission process.
- To evaluate the effectiveness of programs implemented to address unconscious biases and system racism and for other statistical and analytic purposes.
No. Your provision of information about you relating to equity, diversity, and inclusion is entirely voluntary.
No. Except as expressly described in this notice, your responses to the questions about equity, diversity, and inclusion will not affect your application to any institution.
Yes. Always check in with your college website or follow up directly with each college individually to learn how you can access EDI programs relevant to you.
