FAQ: AI Advisor
The AI advisor Beta tool consists of two main parts, both of which are designed to help applicants find the most suitable program for them on ontariocolleges.ca.
- Self-discovery: this module engages users in a conversation about their interests, skills, hobbies, and goals. Based on this conversation, the tool creates a User Profile complete with a summary of their skills and interests. Users can edit these if they feel the need.
- Recommendations: this module matches the generated user profile with college programs. It then ranks the programs based on how well they match the individual's profile. On the Results Screen, users see programs ranked by similarity, with options to filter results, learn more, or start an application.
No. This is a supplementary tool you can use as a part of your post-secondary exploration and research to help you discover college programs. You can search for college programs and apply at ontariocolleges.ca.
First, the tool creates a profile of you and your interest based on your conversation – you have the opportunity to edit this profile if you’d like. Next, the tool uses program names and descriptions based on information on colleges websites: it matches college programs with your user profile and gives you a list of the most similar programs.

We apologize if the program information is out of date – you can always check the Ontario colleges Program Catalogue for the most recent programs.

Your information is anonymized and stored safely using Canadian servers (meaning it’s protected by Canada’s more stringent privacy laws). We never sell user data, and we will not use AI Advisor conversations to train or fine-tune machine learning models. Anonymous information may be reviewed by humans for quality assurance and user research purposes.

If you're not sure where to start, try answering some of its questions and see if its recommendations catch your interest. You can try having several conversations with the AI Advisor Beta tool and pursue different directions each time, seeing which of the outcomes works best for you. Your feedback on what was useful and what did not work for you would be instrumental in improving this tool.
The program recommendations are based on a combination of artificial intelligence models and search algorithms that evaluates the similarity between the user profile and the program description.
