What to expect from a career as a PSW
Personal support workers play a vital role in the health-care industry, working in private homes or health-care facilities to help provide patients with care and comfort. Ontario’s colleges prepare students for these careers with a combination of skills training, lab work and clinical placements that equip them to confidently enter the workforce. Full-time accelerated and standard programs can be completed in anywhere from six months to one year and part-time programs in up to two years. That means there are many ways to learn and train at a pace that works for you.
New training pathway to a PSW career!
To support the demand for trained professionals in this rewarding field, a new, accelerated PSW training program that includes no tuition was recently introduced at all 24 public colleges. This new accelerated program comes with:
- No tuition fee and funding for expenses such as textbooks and other supplies.
- A condensed schedule that allows students to graduate with a full PSW credential in six months.
- Opportunities early in the program to get hands-on experience.
- A paid work placement in the final three months of the program.
Entry dates for this program are April 5, May 10 or June 14.
